Cricket fans across Asia are eagerly awaiting the Asia Cup 2025, and all eyes are on the potential high-voltage clash between India and Pakistan. Despite the heightened tensions following the tragic Pahalgam terror attack earlier this year, the tournament is firmly on the Asian Cricket Council’s (ACC) agenda. According to recent reports, the ACC is targeting a September 10 start date, with the UAE emerging as the preferred host nation.
This edition of the Asia Cup will see six top Asian cricketing nations—India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Afghanistan, and the UAE—battle it out in the fast-paced T20 format. The official schedule is expected to be released in the first week of July.
While India are the official hosts for Asia Cup 2025, ongoing political strains between India and Pakistan make it highly likely that the event will shift to a neutral venue. The UAE, with its top-class facilities and history of hosting high-profile international matches, is currently the leading contender.
Given the challenges of direct travel and security concerns, the ACC is considering a hybrid model—as used in previous editions—to allow both India and Pakistan to participate without crossing borders.
Contrary to earlier rumors and media reports suggesting India might withdraw due to security concerns, BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia has refuted such claims. He clarified that the withdrawal was never discussed, describing the reports as “speculative and imaginary.”
India and Pakistan no longer play bilateral series, making their rare encounters in ICC and ACC events even more anticipated. The last time both sides faced each other in a major tournament was during the ICC Champions Trophy in Dubai.
