In a notable shift in Indian cricket governance, Mithun Manhas has been elected unopposed as the 37th president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). The decision was made during the 94th annual general meeting held in Mumbai, marking a significant moment in cricket history. Manhas, a former captain of Delhi, is stepping into this role after Roger Binny’s resignation earlier this year, with Rajeev Shukla having served as interim vice-president.

Expressing his gratitude and the weight of responsibility, Manhas stated, “It’s an absolute honour to be the president of the world’s finest cricketing board.” His appointment comes after a successful cricketing career spanning over two decades, during which he accumulated impressive statistics across formats. With 9714 runs in first-class cricket, he is well-equipped to lead Indian cricket.

Among the leadership team, Rajeev Shukla will continue as the vice-president, while Devajit Saikia has been appointed as the board secretary. Notably, the BCCI office bearers now include former Karnataka player Raghuram Bhat as treasurer, signifying a shift towards experienced cricketers in administrative roles.

In addition, the BCCI has made significant changes in its selection committees, with former bowlers like Pragyan Ojha and RP Singh being appointed to the men’s selection panel. Jaydev Shah has joined the Apex Council, indicating a progressive structure aimed at enhancing governance within Indian cricket.

As BCCI president, Mithun Manhas has vowed to utilize his experience gained within the Jammu & Kashmir Cricket Association to foster growth and development in cricket, ensuring that India’s cricketing legacy continues to flourish.
