Mohammed Shami Calls Out BCCI on Communication Issues

In a recent statement, India’s pace spearhead, Mohammed Shami, has raised significant concerns regarding the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and the lack of communication from selectors. Following his exclusion from the ODI and T20I squads for the impending Australia tour, Shami expressed his frustration at not being contacted about his recovery and fitness status.

“The Indian team never reached out to me about my fitness. It’s not my job to update them; they should be the ones to ask,” Shami stated, emphasizing that he is fit and ready to compete. He further explained, “If I can play four-day cricket, then why can’t I play a 50-over game? If I was unfit, I’d be at the NCA, not in the Ranji Trophy.”

Shami’s comments contradict those made by BCCI chief selector Ajit Agarkar, who noted that Shami needed more playing time due to limited participation in recent matches. Agarkar had said, “He hasn’t played much cricket. I think he had one game for Bengal and another in the Duleep Trophy. We all know his ability, but he needs to get more matches under his belt.”

The 35-year-old fast bowler will showcase his skills in the Ranji Trophy, which begins on October 15, under the captaincy of Abhimanyu Easwaran. This decision highlights Shami’s determination to prove his fitness and capacity to contribute to the national team once more.

Match Type Matches Played Competitions
Ranji Trophy 1 Bengal
Duleep Trophy 1 Team Performance

Shami last represented India in the Champions Trophy finale against New Zealand earlier this year, further underscoring his eagerness to return to the international stage. With his experience and skillset, Shami remains a vital asset for the Indian cricket team.
