The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has taken a serious stance regarding the delayed delivery of the Asia Cup trophy, which the Indian men’s team won earlier this year in Dubai.
India triumphed over Pakistan in a thrilling final, yet the moment was marred by the absence of the trophy presentation. Instead of celebrating with their well-earned silverware, the Suryakumar Yadav-led team found themselves trophy-less.
BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia has confirmed that the trophy has yet to arrive at the board’s headquarters. “Ten days ago, we wrote to the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) Chairperson, requesting that the trophy be handed over to the BCCI at the earliest. However, till today, we have not received it,” he stated.
This situation marks a rare occurrence in cricket where a winning team does not receive their trophy post-victory. The delay has raised eyebrows in the cricketing community, fueling further dissatisfaction among fans and officials alike.
According to Saikia, the BCCI will wait just one more day for the trophy’s delivery. “If we do not get the trophy by November 3, a meeting will be held at the ICC headquarters in Dubai, where we will raise our grievance before the apex body of international cricket,” he warned.
With this warning, the BCCI is hopeful that the ICC will intervene. “We are sure the ICC will do justice and help India get the trophy at the earliest,” Saikia reassured.
