Recent rumors speculating the sale of Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have been firmly denied by franchise officials. This comes on the heels of significant changes in other IPL teams, raising concerns among fans.
A senior official from CSK has assured that there are no plans for a sale. “The current owners have absolutely no intention of selling the team,” stated the representative. This miscommunication seems to stem from the ongoing discussions surrounding other franchises like Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Rajasthan Royals (RR).
CSK has maintained its status as an independent entity since 2015, long before UltraTech Cement’s involvement with India Cements. The franchise operates under Chennai Super Kings Cricket Limited and has seen no directive towards a possible sale.
Despite not qualifying for the playoffs during the recent IPL season, CSK reported a profit of approximately ₹181 crore for the 2024-25 financial year.
| Year | Profit (₹ Crore) | Playoff Qualification |
|---|---|---|
| 2024-25 | 181 | No |
Moreover, CSK is broadening its horizons by entering international leagues, owning franchises in both the SA20 and MLC. These expansions are indicative of the franchise’s growth strategy and commitment to cricket on a global scale.
The management’s firm stance should assuage any lingering fears about the potential sale of CSK. This beloved franchise remains firmly in the hands of the Srinivasan family, who regard it as more than just a business venture.
