Abhimanyu Easwaran’s long-awaited Test debut has hit another roadblock as he was dropped from the Indian team for the upcoming series against the West Indies. Despite showing promise in domestic cricket, Easwaran’s inability to convert his efforts into consistent performances for India A and during overseas tours has seen him benched once more.
Adding to the drama, former Test opener Kris Srikkanth hinted that Easwaran’s exclusion could be linked to his father, Ranganathan, who made headlines with his critical statements directed at the selectors and coach Gautam Gambhir following India’s recent series draw in England.
Ranganathan expressed his frustration at the management for allegedly ignoring Easwaran despite prior assurances of his continued selection. Srikkanth noted that while the chief selector, Ajit Agarkar, provided a logical explanation for not including a reserve opener on home turf, the backdrop of family controversy could have complicated Easwaran’s standing.
With India’s deep roster of opening batsmen, including KL Rahul and Yashasvi Jaiswal, the competition is fierce. The Test series begins on October 2 in Ahmedabad, with Easwaran keeping a close eye on the sidelines, still chasing his dream of wearing the national cap.
