Ravindra Jadeja has addressed his omission from India’s ODI squad for the upcoming series against Australia, emphasizing his respect for the selectors’ decision. The 36-year-old all-rounder, critical to India’s recent Champions Trophy success, conveyed his surprise at being dropped, especially given his regular role in the team’s white-ball format.
Chairman of selectors Ajit Agarkar clarified that the decision was rooted in team balance, particularly for the Australian conditions that favor a diverse bowling attack rather than an over-reliance on spinners.
During a media interaction on Day 2 of the Test against West Indies, Jadeja reiterated that despite his disappointment, he understood the selectors’ reasoning. He noted, “It is not in my hands. Whenever I get a chance again, I’ll try to perform my best.”
With aspirations for the 2027 ODI World Cup, which will be held in South Africa, Namibia, and Zimbabwe, Jadeja stated, “To win the World Cup is a dream for everyone.” The veteran all-rounder holds impressive statistics:
| ODIs Played | Runs Scored | Wickets Taken |
|---|---|---|
| 204 | 2806 | 231 |
Jadeja remains optimistic about returning to form, indicating that upcoming ODIs provide him with the opportunity to showcase his talent and contribute to Indian cricket’s future success.
