The Karnataka government has officially cleared the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) to host their matches at the iconic M Chinnaswamy Stadium for the IPL 2026 season. The decision comes after extensive discussions with local authorities and adherence to safety measures following a tragic incident in June.
In the aftermath of the Bengaluru stampede that occurred on June 3, where 11 lives were lost and over 50 were injured during post-match celebrations, the venue was deemed unsafe for large gatherings. Since then, RCB and the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) have collaborated with the government to address security concerns.
Karnataka Minister Ramalinga Reddy stated, “The cabinet agreed with certain conditions as per the Cunha report. A maximum of 35,000 fans will be permitted to ensure safety.” This limit is 5,000 less than the stadium’s full capacity, emphasizing the commitment to secure fan safety.
To boost safety at the venue, RCB has committed INR 4.50 crore for the installation of 300 to 350 AI-enabled cameras aimed at crowd monitoring and control. This investment underscores RCB’s proactive stance in ensuring a secure environment for fans.
Prior to receiving the green light, RCB explored alternatives for their home matches, reaching out to the Mumbai Cricket Association and the Chhattisgarh State Cricket Sangh. However, with the stadium now approved for use, RCB fans can look forward to enjoying the matches at home.
| Detail | Status |

The return of RCB to M Chinnaswamy Stadium marks a significant moment in the upcoming IPL season, allowing fans to cheer for their team in their home ground. It’s a promising development that aims to enhance security while reviving the excitement of live cricket.
